Greg Brown wins NASA AIX at Mid-Ohio
by Modular Depot

Modular Depot entered the Champion Motorsports Grand Am FR500C in the NASA American Iron Extreme class this weekend at Mid-Ohio. The car is 800 lbs. over minimum weight and over 100 horsepower short of most competitors but with careful race planning, having a well prepared car and some help from Kenny Brown, Modular Depot pulled off the win on Saturday and Sunday.

The decision to take the FR500C was made to get some testing under our belt and to check out the NASA series. The car was run legal for Grand Am, which means it was severely overweight, underpowered and rolling on much less rubber than the average AIX car. "The strategy for the weekend was to utilize the cars strong points and our experience in Grand Am to get the leverage to swing our way", said Greg Brown, driver and Modular Depot Road Racing expert. With some suspension adjustments and Greg's great driving skills, we were running lap times a few seconds behind the leaders, but due to our ABS, we were able to out brake anyone on the track. This made it very difficult for anyone to stay in front of us.

Sunday's win can be best attributed to being prepared and aware of the weather. Although not raining when called to the grid, it was obvious to us that rain was imminent. "We decided to go out on rain tires hoping it would rain shortly into the race giving us a big advantage over the high horsepower cars on slicks", said Brown. This decision paid off immediately as it started to pour before the cars left the grid. With the combo of the rain tires and the ABS, the Modular Depot FR500C was just about unbeatable in the rainy conditions.
